The topic of phases of the Moon is almost always taught during the first week of the astronomy class and a lot of people are not clear about the reasons behind the phases of the Moon.

To put it very briefly, the Moon’s phases are caused by the changing angle of the illumination of the Moon by  the Sun while orbits around the Earth. The Moon goes through the phase of complete illumination to the crescent phase when it is obliquely enlightened.
